What is a routine eye exam?

A routine eye exam defined by insurance companies is for the purpose of checking vision and/or updating eyeglasses or contact lens prescriptions. Routine eye exams provide a final diagnosis such as: nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.

What is a medical eye exam?

During a medical eye exam, the physician checks the overall health of the eye, whereas the routine eye exam only checks vision for prescription purposes. Medical eye exams provide a final diagnosis such as: Conjunctivitis, Dry Eye, Glaucoma, or Cataracts.
